Apartments Surroundings

The apartments are located in La Guardia (Toledo), a town of 2,286 inhabitants.

La Guardia is located in the northeast of the province of Toledo, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha.

Geographically it is located to the south of the region of the Mesa de Ocaña, and from there, the extensive region of La Mancha opens up, which is why La Guardia is called the Balcony or Gateway of La Mancha.

It has an extension of 195.5 square kilometers. It is 54 kilometers to the east of the capital of the province, and borders with the municipalities of Dosbarrios and Villatobas to the north, Lillo to the southeast, El Romeral and Tembleque to the south, and Villanueva de Bogas and Huerta de Valdecarábanos to the west.

Historically, the area has been inhabited since ancient times, having found Neolithic remains in the site known as "Cerro de la Atalaya". It is believed to have been inhabited uninterruptedly from the Paleolithic period until the Roman conquest.

La Guardia participated in the heroic struggles of the Carpetanos against Rome. With the Goths, it began to be an important town or village because of its special situation that makes it the key to the road to Andalusia.

During the Arab domination this town received a great strategic importance. After its Reconquest by Alfonso VI El Bravo, it belonged to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.

Later, in 1212, his sons distinguished themselves in the battle of the Navas de Tolosa, deserving for it, the Title of the Very Loyal, granted by Alfonso VIII the Noble, thus becoming a royal villa and being an administrative center of the nearby nuclei.

Later this town was donated by Fernando III El Santo to the diocese of Toledo. Later, it was alienated by virtue of the pontifical bulls by Felipe II, in favor of the Guardiolas and Bazanes lords, who were given the title of Counts of Campo-Rey.

In times of the War of Independence, this town was an active scene of the fight against the French, contributing all its sons to the units of General Castaños.

With respect to the sporting or leisure character, the hunting and wine activity are great attractions of the rural enclave. They are of great importance in La Guardia and have a special influence on the hotel and tourism industry. La Guardia has an extraordinary hunting richness, with the Lagunas de La Guardia just a few minutes by car or on foot from our lodging. In these lagoons of municipal property and free visit we can enjoy a number of unique species such as the Moustached, White-headed Duck, White Tarros etc.

Halfway between our lodging and Las Lagunas we find in a unique enclave the Hermitage of Our Patron Saint El Santo Niño, carved into the rock and witness of the Cedrón Valley for several centuries. It will be an obligatory stop for our guests who want to know our environment.

Through our house passes the Route of Don Quixote, having countless paths and combinations for lovers of hiking in any season of the year.

The social, cultural and economic importance of the wine sector in Castilla-La Mancha is evident when considering its more than 500,000 hectares of vineyards, as well as the high number of jobs generated by the 225 cooperatives and 365 wineries that are scattered throughout the geography of Castilla-La Mancha, with 70% of the rural population living from the vine and wine.

The competitiveness of this strategic sector, together with the cultivation methods, the enological technology used in its elaborations and its wide range of varieties, have made it possible for the wines of La Guardia to be among the most demanded in the market, one of its wineries having obtained the recognition of the denomination of origin "Vino de Pago Campo de la Guardia", in August 2009.
